Remodeling Calculators
Free remodeling calculators for paint, drywall, tile, laminate, and vinyl plank flooring. Estimate quantities, waste, and common supplies.
Remodeling estimating tools
Paint Calculator
Estimate paint gallons while accounting for room size, openings, and coat count.
Drywall Calculator
Estimate drywall sheets, screws, and joint compound for a room.
Tile Calculator
Estimate tile quantity, thinset, and grout for floors or walls.
Laminate Flooring Calculator
Estimate flooring boxes, waste, and underlayment for laminate or vinyl plank.
Planning a remodeling material estimate
Remodeling estimates must account for existing conditions. Walls may be out of square, surfaces may need repair, and openings or built-ins can interrupt an otherwise simple area. Record demolition, substrate preparation, finish material, and trim as separate scopes so a finish calculator does not imply those tasks are included.
Paint, drywall, tile, and flooring all use area, but their purchasing rules differ. Paint coverage changes with porosity and color change. Drywall depends on sheet layout and openings. Tile depends on pattern, joint width, mortar, and grout. Flooring depends on carton coverage and reusable cuts.
Check before calculating
- ✓Measure existing rooms at more than one point.
- ✓Inspect substrate condition before choosing coverage assumptions.
- ✓Separate demolition, repair, finish, trim, and disposal quantities.
- ✓Confirm product lot, carton, can, and bag coverage.
- ✓Plan temporary storage and safe access in an occupied building.
A reliable workflow
- 1Document the existing condition and finished scope.
- 2Measure each wall, floor, ceiling, and opening.
- 3Calculate net material quantities by trade.
- 4Add pattern- and condition-specific allowances.
- 5Coordinate sequence, cure time, delivery, and leftover storage.
Common questions
Should every door and window be subtracted?
Large openings should normally be measured. Small openings may be left in some paint estimates because application loss offsets the area, while drywall sheet layout may still require full sheets around them.
Does finish-material coverage include surface preparation?
No. Primer, patching compound, backer board, leveling material, moisture control, and demolition are separate unless a tool explicitly includes them.
